Dr. Shasikant Sanghvi, M.D. Named Physician of the Year 2006
3-30-2006
Each year the Nurse Practice Council accepts nominations from nurses at Ottumwa Regional Health Center for the Physician of the Year.
During a special awards celebration on Doctor's Day March 30th, Dr. Shasikant Sanghvi, anesthesiologist was announced as this year's recipient.
Criteria to be nominated by the nurses include: sharing knowledge, having strong interpersonal communication skills, being respectful of patients and staff, recognizing RN knowledge and skill, and collaborating with team members.
Some comments from the nomination forms include:
"Dr. Sanghvi explains everything to the patient and always answers their questions respectfully and thoroughly. He never hurries them. He is very good at his job and puts the patient first."
"He is willing to share his knowledge with staff and students. If he doesn't know an answer, he is willing to conduct the research. He respects nursing judgment even if he doesn't agree 100%. He is always professional, and is a great team member. No matter how tense a situation may become, he remains calm and in control."
"If there is a question if the patient is healthy enough for surgery, he will talk with the surgeon, patient, family and nursing staff. He doesn't hesitate to cancel a surgery if he doesn't think the patient is healthy enough to tolerate the anesthesia. The patient's best interests are always top priority!"
A reception was held in the ORHC cafeteria where many staff members paid their respects to Dr. Sanghvi.
